Theater Max
Current version: v1.0
April 4, 2006 (.zip) [168 kb]
To get started, click on the abstraction +Master Show Patch+, and follow the instructions in the patch.
We use VBAP (by Ville Pulkki) for our multichannel panner, you will need to download it from his site. Make sure you grab the version for your platform.
Note that Theater Max and VBAP will both need to be in your Max search path (Options >> File Preferences...). If you add these after you have launched Max, you may need to quit and relaunch Max.
You will also need the most recent versions (4.5.x) of Max & MSP from cycling74.
Theater Max should work fine on both platforms (Mac & PC), however most of our building and testing has taken place on the the Mac. It was tested...briefly...on a PC without any problems (other than needing to add those silly extensions). Other than VBAP, Theater Max uses only standard Max and MSP objects so we don't foresee any issues. If you have problems, please let us know!
A NOTE ABOUT VST instruments:
There is a slight little *bug* in the vst~ object where it requires you to "initialize" the object with a VSTi plugin in order to use a VSTi plugin...even if you are at first going to use other non-VSTi plugins. It can be initialized with any VSTi...not necessarily the one you may want to use. This is done by giving the vst~ object the name of a VSTi plugin as an argument (rather than via a 'plug' message). We've created a very simple VSTi, called "tm.vsti-init". It simply passes audio thru, but has the internal flags set so that the vst~ object thinks it has loaded a VSTi. Sneaky, eh? By default we have not made this part of the our "tm.playbank" abstraction. To make it so you can play VSTi, go to the "tm.vstgoodies" abstraction and add "tm.vsti-init" as an argument to BOTH vst~ objects. You will also need some version of pluggo installed to work (full, JR, or runtime). Or you can simply load another VSTi...but just be aware that these often take a bit of time to load. So might as well use ours. See cycling74.com for more info on downloading pluggo, if needed.
