John Unsworth currently serves as dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with appointments as professor in GSLIS, the Department of English, and the Library Faculty.  He has also served as the first director of University of Virginia’s Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities and as the president of North Carolina State University’s Association for Computers

and the Humanities, along with serving on many other editorial and

advisory boards.

Dr. Unsworth’s research has been highly influential in the development of the field of digital humanities; his work has dealt with a broad range of computer applications to humanities research and education, including digital modeling of humanities data, electronic scholarship, publishing, and text-editing, as well as cyberinfrastructure for the humanities and social sciences.  In 2005, the National Humanities Center presented Dr. Unsworth with the Richard W. Lyman Award in recognition of his leadership and efforts to advance humanistic scholarship.  Please join us for this event, as Dr. Unsworth discusses his current projects and the exciting future of digital humanities.

The DeCafe is located at 1302 Perloff Hall, Portola Plaza, in the northeast portion of the Westwood campus.  Public parking is available in Lot 3 for $8.00.  We suggest you enter the campus at Wyton Drive and Hilgard Avenue and proceed to the Parking Information kiosk to purchase parking.
