Jeff is the Director of Technology Research Initiatives for the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. He helped to start and co-directs REMAP. His research explores (usually by building things) how emerging technologies can serve expressive and social goals. He is interested in creating new relationships among media, performer, audience, and the built environment, and in particular how technology can better support creative authorship of 'systems' and not just 'content'.
Jeff is affiliated with the NSF Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS), as area lead for 'participatory sensing'. He is also the application team lead for the NSF Future Internet Architecture program Named Data Networking.
Recent courses include: Building Virtual Worlds (Fall 2011) and Puppeted Architecture (Fall 2010 / Winter 2011) with Dana Cuff and Jason Payne.
