Don Edler is an artist and filmmaker whose work focuses on critical perspectives centering around art and technology. His work explores the deep history of human technological development and how technology has influenced social and cultural evolution. His recent experimental documentary, Devil You Know (2020), utilizes novel machine learning-based technologies, such as OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model and the Amazon Poly synthetic voice generator, to investigate how mass media, popular culture and emerging forms of artificial intelligence can quickly become dangerously entangled.
Edler’s work has been exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions at Hunter Shaw Fine Art in Los Angeles, NADA Miami, and the San Diego Institute of Art. Edler was the founder of Elevator Mondays, an experimental social exhibition space in Los Angeles from 2017 to 2020. He is currently a graduate student in the UCLA Department of Design Media Arts.
