UCLA REMAP

Center for Research in Engineering, Media and Performance

Jared J. Stein

Research Artist Emeritus.

Jared is a director, theatre-maker and writer, who has created work for stages around the world.

He was a senior research artist for REMAP from 2011 to 2020 and a resident artist for REMAP’s predecessor, UCLA’s HyperMedia Studio, from 2001 to 2003—experimenting with approaches emerging media platforms offer theatre-making and storytelling, as a writer, director, producer and dramaturg. Jared also collaborated with the Center as the co-director of the Rhodope International Theatre Laboratory (RITL) in Bulgaria from 2005 to 2012, to which REMAP contributed each year, and in 2012, as the co-director of the REMAP/RITL Workshop for Digital Media, Theatre & Design in Italy. He continues to work with REMAP artist-researchers at cheLA, REMAP’s partner in Buenos Aires.

Jared has also served as a visiting faculty member at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and Bulgaria’s National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, among others.
