Katie Shilton

Katie is an assistant professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, and a senior research fellow at the University of Maryland’s Information Policy & Access Center. Her research explores ethics and policy for the design of information collections, systems and technologies. She currently leads a project that investigates the values and policy implications of Named Data Networking, a new approach to Internet architecture.

She previously coordinated an NSF-funded research project at UCLA’s Center for Embedded Networked Sensing, and an education project focused on ethics as inspiration for innovation. Katie received a B.A. from Oberlin College in 2003, a Master of Library and Information Science from UCLA in 2007, and a Ph.D. in Information Studies from UCLA in 2011.
