Navilandia AL SUR ! comprised Christmas decorations distributed and tracked throughout Buenos Aires. Found in 2001 when Fabian Wagmister acquired the abandoned warehouse that would become cheLA (Centro Hipermediatico Experimental Latinoamericano), the lights, wreaths, artificial trees, fake snow, and other ornaments were used by hospitals and nonprofits (arts, advocacy and student groups) to build resonant installations throughout the city.
As the organizations took the materials and created their pieces, Wagmister and a REMAP-cheLA team built a 3D model of their locations, leading to an original web visualization designed by Eitan Mendelowitz. Jeff Burke led the technological development and coded the image scanning and registration system using medical image registration techniques.
Participating organizations included Centro Rural De Arte, the Monteagudo Social Integration Center, San Antonio de Padua Church, and the Southern Social Circus, among others.
