Riddles of the Sphinx

This video installation by Peter Wollen, Kevin Fisher, and Jeff Burke explored the materiality of digital compression and analog film, based on Peter Wollen’s 1977 film of the same name. Burke developed the visual approach and programmed a full-frame JPEG-inspired compression / quantization scheme for moving images.
