Marty Sklar Entertainment Innovation Fellowship 2024
UCLA REMAP is pleased to announce the third annual call for applications for the Marty Sklar Entertainment Innovation Fellowship.
We invite applicants from across UCLA who are interested in significant roles in research and production at the UCLA Center for Research in Engineering, Media and Performance (REMAP) to apply to The Marty Sklar Entertainment Innovation Fellowship. The Fellowship was established in 2020 by the family of Martin A. Sklar to support UCLA students participating in major collaborative projects at REMAP that interweave the physical and digital worlds to share new kinds of stories, and engage with the legacy and future of themed entertainment.
The Fellowship supports graduates and undergraduates from the School of Theater, Film, and Television and other disciplines. Each fellow receives $12,000 and must create or participate in at least one major collaborative project at REMAP over the course of Winter 2024–Summer 2024, as well as training and community-building activities.
This year, fellows will participate in one of four areas of work at REMAP:
- Mobile, locative media experiences in L.A. public space (augmented reality, projection mapping, etc.)
- Extended reality (XR) and on-set virtual production (OSVP) for live performance and live action filmmaking.
- Exploration of techniques, applications, and ethics of AI applied to projects in the arts.
- Policy research at the intersection of technological innovation, creativity, and culture.

The application process is open to all full-time UCLA students in good academic standing with a minimum required GPA of 3.25. Applications are due by December 15, 2023, and we expect to announce the 2024 Sklar Fellows in early Winter Quarter 2024 We anticipate granting three awards during this academic year.

- Letter of application (no more than 2 pages, PDF format, with name and contact email) introducing the applicant, describing how this fellowship relates to their own academic and professional trajectory and discussing specific interests in one or more of the projects.
- Letter of recommendation specific to this opportunity.
